Embracing Water Consciousness: A Journey Through the Lakes

Water has always held a special fascination for me, a force both life-giving and formidable in its power to transform landscapes. Lately, I've found myself drawn more deeply into the consciousness of water, reflecting on its profound impact on my life and spiritual journey.

A Child’s Connection to Water

My journey with water consciousness began in childhood when I first realized that water "spoke" to me. Living near the enchanting lakes of Loch Ennell, Loch Owel, and Loch Derravaragh, I felt a unique bond with each one, as if they each had a story and lesson to share.

Loch Ennell was the shallow, sandy-bottomed lake where families gathered and where I felt safe exploring the world of water. Known for its calm and inviting nature, it was a place of playfulness and security—a nurturing Maiden in my life.

Loch Owel offered a different experience with its deep, clear waters teeming with fish. Its colder embrace surrounded an island that held the ruins of a monastery, adding an air of mystery and reverence. This lake was watched over by hills topped with ancient beacons, believed to be sites of old rituals. Local folklore tells of a magical transaction between two enchantress sisters, one hailing from Roscommon and the other from Westmeath. The sister residing in Leinster asked her Connaught sibling for the temporary use of her lake for a significant project, with a promise to return it by a specified Monday. However, the lake was never returned, sparking a disagreement over the intended Monday. As a result, the lake still resides in Westmeath today.

Loch Owel is also steeped in folklore regarding its ominous signs. It is said that the waters could foretell drownings. On September 5, 1909, three young men ignored warnings from a local woman who had seen such portents. Despite her pleas, they crossed the lake, leading to a tragic accident where two of them drowned. The survivor could not explain the accident or his survival. Such stories add to the lake's mystique and reverence.

Then there was Loch Derravaragh, nestled between steep, ancient hills. Its dark, enigmatic waters whispered secrets from below, with no gentle entry points. Swimming here was discouraged, and its eerie silence spoke of wisdom drawn from the depths. Loch Derravaragh is steeped in legend, famously associated with the Irish myth of the Children of Lir, who were transformed into swans and spent part of their exile on its waters. This lake, embodying the Crone, shared her age-old secrets through the currents.

The Sacred Dialogue with Water

At these lakes, whether playing with friends or sitting by late-night fires burning dried reeds to keep the midges at bay, I was entranced by the light dancing on the water and the soothing rhythm of waves on the shore. The lakes taught me about safety in the shallows, strength in the depths, and the wisdom that emerges from darkness.

Even now, though far from these waters, I connect with them in spirit. I can feel the weather of the day, taste the spray on my lips, hear the swans, and smell the earth and trees. These lakes are part of my soul, an eternal dialogue with nature.

Kything: A Profound Practice

Among the many practices that Earth magic offers for enhancing our spiritual and psychic awareness, kything stands out as particularly profound. By kything with water, we engage in a deep, intuitive exchange with this elemental force, opening ourselves to insights and energies that guide our journey.

Water’s ability to hold and transmit information allows us to access its memory and consciousness, a vast reservoir of wisdom that supports our health and well-being. Through kything, we can ask water to reveal what our bodies need, resonating with the energy frequencies of minerals and nutrients essential for our health.

Conclusion

Water, in all its forms, continues to be a source of inspiration and growth for me. As we learn to embrace and respect this elemental force, we can deepen our connection to the natural world and ourselves. Whether through direct interaction or through practices like kything, water invites us to explore its mysteries and discover the truths it holds.

What lessons has water shared with you on your journey? I’d love to hear your stories and reflections.
